HAZEL PARK, Mich. (WJBK) - A totaled Lincoln flipped over along I-75 just north of Eight Mile in Hazel Park. 21-year-old Feras Salem and 26-year-old Madonna Jarbo, both from Sterling Heights, were killed at the scene.
Madonna's sister, 20-year-old Marietta Jarbo, survived. Family members say she was not wearing a seat belt because it was stuck between the back seats. As a result, she was thrown through a window. They believe that's the only reason she's still alive.
The brother of the two girls told FOX 2 that he's visited Marietta in the hospital. He said she's conscious and talking, but is still in critical condition and expected to undergo surgery.
The two sisters worked at a Marathon station at 13 1/2 Mile and Ryan.
It's still not clear what caused the car to skid off the freeway, lose control and slam into a retaining wall. The pavement was wet around 10:20 Wednesday night. Family members are also waiting to learn whether alcohol was a factor in the deadly crash.
