Four women and the media's agenda
(Gabriel Garnica) - There should be no doubt about the pathetically leftist slant of all mainstream media after the recent election spectacle, yet the endless parade of fawning bias continues to border on absurdity. When facing a limitless farce, it is best to focus on a few representative examples in the interest of brevity and respect for human tolerance. In this instance, I would like to point out two recent cases conveniently emanating from New York's Daily News, along with a related instance of liberal satire...

Andrew Greeley fan rips Catholic columnists; 'Speak Out Illinois 2009'
(Matt C. Abbott) - I was intrigued to find this Jan. 4 column by one Laura Harrison McBride, "DC Ethical Issues Examiner," who takes issue (ahem) with my April 13, 2008 column, and takes a shot at fellow RenewAmerica.us Catholic columnist Tom O'Toole. Ms. McBride is "an avid Greeley fan" who refers to me and other pro-life activists as "anti-choice activists"...

My challenge to Christopher Hitchens
(Donald Hank) - The article "How atheism is being sold to America" by David Kupelian, author of the best seller The Marketing of Evil, discusses how atheism is being sold by well-known atheists like Christopher Hitchens, Sam Harris and Richard Dawkins, to name a few authors whose books have been hot items lately...

Top 10 most unbelievable things of 2008 -- or maybe of all time
(Michael Bresciani) - Some of the most popular TV shows today are top ten lists. Everything from the top ten most deadly snakes to the top ten worst disasters is being aired. Here is a top ten list of what could be considered the hardest things to believe from the year 2008. That there are only ten is also hard to believe when in reality there are literally hundreds...

UAW floating 'phantom employees' and avoiding property taxes at luxury golf course?
(Warner Todd Huston) - Some new tough questions are being asked about Black Lake Golf Club, the luxury golf course owned by the United Auto Workers union in Cheboygan County, Michigan. Along with the multi-million dollar golf resort, the UAW also funds what it calls an "education center" with the funding connected to the resort...

Obama nominates Leon Panetta for CIA chief
(Jim Kouri) - In a nation already suspicious of its intelligence agencies, is it wise to appoint a former Clinton crony as Director of Central Intelligence? Well, two Democratic officials leaked the story that President-elect Barack Obama has chosen former Clinton White House chief of staff Leon Panetta to run the CIA, according to Los Angeles' newsradio KNX...

Christianity and the vitality of Western civilization
(Fred Hutchison) - In our walk through the history of conservatism, we have reached the period running from 1973 to 1988. In 1973, abortion was legalized, and 1988 was the last year of the Reagan presidency. That was the heyday of the culture war when the Christian right rose to challenge the powerful secular left...

People of Gaza, you got what you voted for -- stop complaining
(JR Dieckmann) - Palestinians in Gaza voted for Hamas, and now they are getting exactly what they voted for: A terrorist regime, provoking war with Israel, suicide bombers, shortages of food and medicine, socialism, poverty, and no hope for peace. They knew what Hamas represented when they voted for it. They are now reaping the consequences of their vote. They are not victims of Israeli aggression, they are accomplices and supporters of an Islamic terrorist organization...

God belongs at presidential inaugural ceremonies
(Michael Gaynor) - In what Gwen Ifill calls "the Age of Obama," will Newdow's sinister efforts fare better? Once against, atheist Michael Newdow is asserting that his atheist sensibilities require that an end be put to the practice of having prayer at presidential inaugurations...

The Gaza problem: how do you negotiate with people who want to obliterate you?
(Mary Mostert) - Al Jazeera, which is headquartered in Doha, Qatar, quoted White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe as saying: "In order for the violence to stop, Hamas must stop firing rockets into Israel and agree to respect a sustainable and durable ceasefire"...

Saving the day in His Holy Name: St. Genevieve gets a reprieve
(Tom O'Toole) - When she died last summer at the age of 87, it's doubtful my mother-in-law, Genevieve Ohlin, had even heard of her holy namesake, St. Genevieve of Paris. First of all, "Murph" (the nickname my mother-in-law always went by), was an LLL (Life Long Lutheran), and not much of a churchgoer at that. But now that she has left the Missouri Synod for a far more heavenly assembly, I have no doubt Murph (who always loved a good story) has had a chance to hear the saint's tale from the first "Gen" herself, and would love to share it with you...

In lieu of a year-end brag letter: "GOT PEACE"?
(Curtis Dahlgren) - "Do good, O Lord, unto those who be good, and to those who are upright in their hearts." -- King David "Liberals seen to have hit upon a reverse Christ story as their belief system. He suffered and died for our sins; liberals make the rest of us suffer for sins we didn't commit." -- Ann Coulter (GUILTY: Liberal "Victims" and Their Assault on America)...
